Statewide School-Link Training: A comprehensive approach to interagency mental health training

Seven Years History

School-Link Training Phase 1, entitled Adolescent depression and related disorders, consolidated relevant knowledge and collaboration between school and TAFE counsellors and adolescent mental health and related workers in NSW during 2000-2001 .

School-Link Training Phase 2 addressed self-harm in adolescents to illustrate key issues in the advanced assessment and management of adolescent depression and related disorders. It was developed and delivered during 2002 - 2003.

School-Link Training Phase 3: Mental distress and wellbeing in Aboriginal, same sex attracted and culturally and linguistically diverse young people was delivered during 2004-5.

School-Link Training Phase 4: Coexisting mental disorder and problematic substance use was developed during 2005 and is currently being delivered. Drug & alcohol workers from across NSW are included in School-Link Training Phase 4.

School-Link Training Phase 5: Anxiety in children and adolescents is currently being developed.

In addition to the staff who attended School-Link Training Phases 1 & 2, Juvenile Justice psychologists and counsellors and DOCS psychologists are now attending School-Link Training Phases 3 & 4.

Supplementary courses continue to be provided for staff who did not attend the initial rollout of School-Link Training Phases 1, 2 & 3.
