This guide has been developed to briefly outline key resources on CIAP which maybe be useful to you in your work or studies in the area of mental health.
CIAP stands for 'Clinical Information Access Program' and is available to all employees of NSWHealth. Link here to CIAP
CIAP provides access to a large collection of electronic resources including databases, journals, clinical guidelines and books in order to support the information and research needs of a broad range of health interests throughout the State. Many of the resources listed are purchased from publishers under licensing agreements providing access to NSWHealth staff only. This is why you are required to use an assigned password to 'log in'. If you donot have your password, you need to get in touch with your local CIAP representative, contact details are on the website.
Journal databases provide access information in journal literature. Database is relevant to this area are listed below. Your topic search usually results in a list of journal citations. Sometimes a citation may include the whole article or 'full text'.

Take some time to explore CIAP as it is a huge resource. For example, there are number of resources for drug information such as MIMS or Australian Medicines Handbook. Micromedex is a database which supports clinical decision making and quality patient care by providing comprehensive disease, drug, acute care, and toxicology information.
One resource which I would draw your attention to is MD-Consult. It has been designed to assist the clinician's at work and integrates a number of resources including medical reference books, journals, Medline, drug information, clinical practice guidelines, customisable patient handouts and clinical updates. A number of students I have met at the Institute have used this resource exclusively and have recommended it highly.
