In 2004/05 The South Australian Mental Health Service recognised that staff development and training would be a critical factor in implementing the mental health reform process in South Australia
The NSW Institute of Psychiatry (NSWIOP) is a key provider of continuing postgraduate, professional education in mental health.
On 1 July 2005, the South Australian Minister for Health contracted with The NSW Institute of Psychiatry to establish the South Australian Mental Health Training Centre as a division of The NSW Institute of Psychiatry.
