Crossing Bridges is a training program specifically designed to enhance the clinical practice for all staff in mental health services working with families where adults with mental illness have responsibility for, live with, or have contact with dependent children.

The impact of parental mental illness on children in particular, and the family in general, is widely recognized and acknowledged.

A range of services may be involved in helping children and families in this situation. These include child and adolescent services, family services, child protection services, schools and mental health services; from both government and non-government sectors.

Crossing Bridges aims to broaden current approaches to assessment and intervention, and to ensure an appropriate knowledge base. The emphasis is on greater collaboration between workers in different services so that their joint efforts result in improved outcomes for children and their parents with mental illness.
