Public Libraries

The National Library's National Bibliographic Database is an enormous catalogue of books and other materials (including online resources) held in Australian libraries. You can search its online catalogue, Libraries Australia. It's also useful for finding government reports which are accessible online.

If convenient, public libraries are worth investigating, especially as these libraries are increasingly providing access to online databases. For example, patrons of the City Of Sydney Library and State Library of NSW have access to Proquest’s Health Wellness database. There is a gateway to all online Australian Public Library catalogues. Sutherland Shire Library's subject speciality is mental health. The State Library of NSW provides access to Psycharticles which is the full text version of the database PsychInfo. You need to visit the State Library to use it, its opening hours and location are linked here.

Interlibrary Loan Services.

If books listed in course outlines, bibliographies or that you have found searching online catalogues are not held at your library it may be possible to organise for the book to be borrowed from another library. Ask the librarian at your medical or public library about this service, on average you need to allow about 2 weeks.
